What we collect

  • On the submission page: URLs, pasted text, and uploaded PDF, DOCX, or TXT files. The project database stores the source URL, when provided, and the first 5,000 characters of submitted content.
  • On the chat page: messages you send. Chat messages are kept in server memory for the session, and the first 50 characters of queries are logged.
  • Search queries entered on the site.
  • A random session ID, stored in your browser as horizon_session, to keep chat context.
  • Your IP address, used for rate limiting.
  • If you send us information by phone, text, or direct message, what you choose to send.

Like any website, our hosting provider automatically receives technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request.

How we use it

We use submissions to provide the requested analysis, classify and index research material, and populate the site's evidence and resources pages. Submitted material may be shown publicly on those pages. We use chat messages to answer your questions, search queries to return results, the session ID to keep chat context, and IP addresses for rate limiting. If you contact us directly, we use what you send to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to marketing lists unless you ask.

Who else handles it

  • Vercel hosts the frontend.
  • Railway hosts the backend and PostgreSQL project database.
  • Google Gemini API receives submitted material for analysis and indexing, and chat messages for responses.
  • YouTube is used to retrieve submitted video links and transcripts.
  • Websites linked in submitted URLs receive requests when our server fetches those pages.

Cookies

This site does not use cookies or similar technologies to track you, and we do not use advertising or analytics cookies. The only item this site stores in your browser is horizon_session, a random ID in localStorage that keeps chat context and contains no personal information. Clearing your browser storage removes it.

Do Not Track signals

This site does not change its behavior in response to browser Do Not Track signals because there is no uniform standard. Other parties do not collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across different websites through our site.

We don't sell or share your information

We do not sell your information for money or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

How long we keep it

We keep direct inquiries until the request is handled or until you ask us to delete them. Chat messages are kept in server memory for the session. Accepted submissions may remain in the project database and on public evidence or resources pages until you ask us to delete them.

Your choices / California rights

You can ask what information we have or ask us to delete it by contacting the AI Horizon research team at California State University, San Bernardino. We respond within 30 days.
